After almost 100 years in the same family, White House Farm got a fresh start in March 2023, with Paul Isted and Verity Nicholson, 3 dogs, some sheep and a lot of help.

The new era will focus on farming in sympathy with the environment whilst day to day growing and rearing food responsibly and ethically.

Whilst there is a lot to do, there are some great opportunities as well, follow our story on facebook and thank you for your support.

Metal Detecting:

The land has exceptional Roman provenance, with evidence of a road leading directly through the farm.  The river has attracted gatherings throughout the centuries and there is plenty of well documented local activity during the civil war and after.

Agreement to a few very reasonable Ts and Cs

  • Agreement to abide by the NCMD code of conduct
  • Payment of £20 daily fee per detectorist from 1st April - 31st Oct 2024 (bring a non-detecting guest with you for free) £10 each Mon-Fri from 1st Nov - 31st March 2024
  • 5 detectors maximum per day on the farm
  • No detecting over growing crops. (A field map can be emailed or sent via WhatsApp, but the notice board in the courtyard is kept up to date)
  • 50/50 split of any find over £300
  • If your day is ruined by the weather and you spent less than 2hrs with us, we will give you a voucher for another day to be taken within 3 months.
  • Hours from 10am until dusk

Fishing:

There was very little interest in river fishing at White House in 2023, so this year we decided to focus on the river habitats and banks, whilst assessing just what the fishing is really like.

Certainly this stretch was very famous for Perch in the nineties, perhaps those days are gone, perhaps not... See the trailer for Martin Bowler's Fishflix online 'The Brook' when he visited the farm October 2024 https://www.facebook.com/reel/483079470757285

In Autumn our small syndicate have caught some superb metre long Pike and numerous Chub and Roach, there has also been the occasional Perch and they seem to be getting bigger.

If you want to fish please email whitehousefarm23@gmail.com for personal permission.  The season closes 14th March for 3 months, so if you are interested in joining the syndicate for next year please ask for a trial day well in advance.

FARMING ENQUIRIES

Spaces to Rent

Some of the yard buildings are becoming available as we clean, paint and patch up.  Enquiries welcome.

Hay and Straw

We regularly have straw and hay available for sale, prices vary and some we keep reserved for horses since the meadows have an excellent mix of grass varieties including plenty of timothy.

Grazing and stabling

Options here vary but it is worth asking, mostly it will depend on how far we have progressed with the fencing work.  At present we are only considering sheep and cattle.

FOR THE FUTURE...

We will be offering exclusive riverside picnic spots too, watch this space, follow our fb feed, or make an enquiry by phone or email, we will be happy to discuss any opportunity that may be available.
