After almost 100 years in the same family, White House Farm got a fresh start in March 2023, with Paul Isted and Verity Nicholson, 3 dogs, some sheep and a lot of help.

The new era will focus on farming in sympathy with the environment whilst day to day growing and rearing food responsibly and ethically.

Whilst there is a lot to do, there are some great opportunities as well, follow our story on facebook and thank you for your support.

Metal Detecting:   £20 per detectorist, each day, 7 days a week

The land has exceptional Roman provenance, with evidence of a road leading directly through the farm.  The river has attracted gatherings throughout the centuries and there is plenty of well documented local activity during the civil war and after.

Agreement to a few very reasonable Ts and Cs

  • Agreement to abide by the NCMD code of conduct
  • Payment of £20 (bring a non-detecting guest with you for free)
  • 5 detectors maximum per day on the farm
  • No detecting over growing crops. (A field map can be emailed or sent via WhatsApp, but the notice board in the courtyard is kept up to date)
  • 50/50 split of any find over £300
  • If your day is ruined by the weather and you spent less than 2hrs with us, we will give you a voucher for another day to be taken within 3 months.
  • Hours from 10am until 6pm (If you are going to arrive later please let us know so that we are not waiting for you)

Fishing:    The river fishing season will open 16th June 2025
